[U.S. judge orders the Trump administration to stop airing taxpayer-funded campaign ads] October 12, U.S. District Judge Jennifer Rochon of New York ordered the Trump administration to stop the continued airing of taxpayer-funded television ads aimed at promoting the president’s policy agenda on the evening of the 11th. According to reports, the Trump administration appropriated funds from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection budget to produce campaign-style ads and began airing them on multiple U.S. television networks in late September as "public service announcements." Court filings by the Trump administration show it has spent $19 million in taxpayer funds on the ads. Some groups, including Common Cause, said the ads were a clear violation of appropriations regulations that limit the use of federal funds for partisan political propaganda. The Democratic National Committee also filed a lawsuit in the Federal District Court of the District of Columbia over these advertisements on the 7th.
