[Beijing will build 100 ancient tree habitat gardens in the next five years] October 13th. Ancient and famous trees are green living fossils engraved on the land of Beijing, carrying the thousand-year ecological memory and historical context of the ancient capital Beijing. Recently, the Capital Greening Committee issued the "Action Plan for the High-Quality Development of the Protection of Ancient and Valuable Trees in the Capital (2026-2030)" to draw a clear roadmap for the high-quality development of the protection and management of ancient and valuable trees in the capital during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period. According to the plan, Beijing has officially launched four major actions: optimization and improvement of the capital’s protection and management system for ancient and famous trees, action for precision improvement and upgrading of protection of ancient and famous trees, action for technological innovation and empowerment of protection of ancient and famous trees, and action for cultural inheritance and revitalization of ancient and famous trees, clarifying the city’s goals, tasks and implementation paths for the protection of ancient and famous trees in the next five years. By 2030, Beijing will build a standardized ancient and famous tree resource database, create 10 ancient tree ecological and cultural landmarks in the old city, build 100 ancient tree habitat gardens and ancient tree villages, carry out preventive protection and rescue and rejuvenation of more than 3,000 ancient and famous trees, collect and preserve 100 rare and endangered ancient and famous tree germplasm resources, and promote the protection of ancient trees to a new stage that is more scientific, digital and systematic.
