[European Commission President calls for repatriation of immigrants who illegally enter Ceuta, Spain] On October 13, European Commission President von der Leyen sent a letter to the leaders of EU member states, calling for stricter immigration policies and supporting the repatriation of immigrants who illegally entered Ceuta, Spain's North African enclave, back to Morocco. Von der Leyen said in the letter that the migrant incident in Ceuta this summer once again exposed the fragility of the EU's external borders. She pointed out that although the number of irregular migrants entering Europe has declined, migrant pressure remains in some parts of Europe. The European Commission will continue to support the Spanish authorities and promote the repatriation of people who have illegally entered and stayed in Ceuta as soon as possible back to Morocco, saying that Morocco has committed to receiving all relevant people. Von der Leyen also called on the EU to strengthen border management, including establishing an emergency mechanism to deal with immigrants being used as a pressure tool, expanding the powers of the EU Border Agency, and increasing the repatriation rate of illegal immigrants. Related issues are expected to be discussed at an EU summit this week. (CCTV News)
