["Molecular Movie" reveals the key process of penicillin synthesis] October 14th, how is penicillin formed in nature? Scientists from the University of Oxford and other institutions in the United Kingdom used new technologies to shoot a "molecular movie" for the synthesis of penicillin, recording key stages that are difficult to observe during the synthesis process, and revealing the formation process of the special ring structure of the penicillin molecule. This study solves a reaction mechanism problem that has plagued the scientific community for more than 40 years and is expected to provide a reference for the development of new antibiotics. Relevant results were published in the latest issue of the journal Nature Catalysis.
