[Germany plans to levy a tax on sugary drinks in 2027] On October 14, a German plan to levy a tax on sugary drinks has been submitted to the cabinet level. If approved, Germany will tax sugary drinks from July 1, 2027, but will exempt smaller manufacturers from tax. According to German sources, according to the plan, sugary drinks with a sugar content of 5 grams or more per 100 ml will be taxed at a tax rate of 26 euro cents per liter; when the sugar content reaches 8 grams or more per 100 ml, the tax rate will be increased to 32 euro cents per liter. Beverages using sweeteners and pure fruit juices are exempt from this tax, as are non-alcoholic beers, non-alcoholic wines and beverages made from soybeans, nuts, seeds or grains. Manufacturers of sugary drinks with an annual output of less than 1 million liters are exempt from paying this tax to avoid increasing the burden on such enterprises.
