[China currently has 180 valid national standards for hydrogen energy] October 14th, reporters learned today that the China Institute of Standardization released the "China Hydrogen Energy Industry Standardization Blue Book (2026)". The Energy Law that will be implemented in 2025 will incorporate hydrogen energy into energy management for the first time. The "15th Five-Year Plan" outline lists hydrogen energy as a forward-looking future industry. Five major hydrogen energy comprehensive application pilot city clusters have been approved for implementation. China's hydrogen energy industry is moving from demonstration introduction to large-scale development, and the standardization strategy has unprecedented momentum. The "Blue Book" provides a panoramic overview of the development process since the release of the first national hydrogen standard in 1983, which has gone through four stages: initial exploration, system construction, quality improvement and upgrading, and accelerated development. As of August 2026, China has 180 current effective national standards for hydrogen energy and 114 are being revised. The implementation of standards is being transformed into industrial momentum. There are about 27,000 fuel cell vehicles in the five demonstration city clusters, and a total of more than 250 hydrogenation stations have been built, operating safely for more than 1.1 billion kilometers. China's hydrogen energy standardization has realized a transformation from "following" to "following, running alongside, and leading". (CCTV News)
