[Researchers have discovered that a single neuron can also perform "intelligent computing"] October 16th, a study completed by Chinese scientists showed that the tree-like branching structure (dendrite) of a single neuron can complete key calculation steps in advanced cognition. Relevant results were published online in the international academic journal "Science" on the 16th. Xu Ninglong, leader of the team and researcher at the Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligent Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that this study updated the traditional view that "a single neuron is just a simple network node in cognitive computing" and showed that cognitive computing that supports flexible behavior can be completed within a single neuron. It opened up a research paradigm to analyze the underlying mechanism of cognitive flexibility from the nerve cell level, and is expected to inspire the design of more efficient and flexible artificial intelligence systems by drawing on the dendritic multi-compartment computing principle.
