[Lam Phu An met with European Commission Economic and Productivity Commissioner Dombrovskis, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde and Eurogroup President Pieracakis] On October 16, 2026, Finance Minister Lam Phu An attended the World Bank/IMF Annual Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. During the meeting of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, he held talks with European Commission Economic and Productivity Commissioner Dombrovskis, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde and Eurogroup President Pierakakis at request, and exchanged views on China-EU macroeconomic policies and other issues. Vice Minister of Finance Liao Min accompanied the event.
Lan Fo'an said that the current world economy is facing multiple challenges. As major economies, China and the EU should promote all parties to practice true multilateralism, oppose various forms of unilateralism and protectionism, strengthen macro policy coordination, maintain the stability of international production and supply chains, and inject impetus into global economic growth.
Lan Fo'an emphasized that global imbalances are complex economic structural problems, which are caused by multiple factors such as the development of economic globalization and international division of labor, the dominance of major currencies, and the macro policy orientations of various countries. In recent years, they have also been more affected by non-economic factors such as geopolitics and protectionism. All parties should view the imbalance issue in a comprehensive, objective and balanced manner, and promote balanced and sustainable growth of the global economy through open cooperation and macro policy coordination. China is accelerating the construction of a new development pattern with the domestic cycle as the main body and the domestic and international dual cycles reinforcing each other. Expanding domestic demand is an important strategic fulcrum. During the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, China will pay more attention to expanding domestic demand, investing in people, opening up and sharing, promoting the economy to achieve effective qualitative improvement and reasonable quantitative growth, and continue to provide opportunities and important support for world economic growth. China is willing to work with the EU to give full play to the role of China-EU financial dialogue and other mechanisms to communicate on improving global economic governance and strengthening macro policy coordination.
The European side stated that Europe and China are important economic partners, and the European side attaches great importance to deepening policy communication and coordination with China. Increasing global imbalances pose risks to macroeconomic stability and require joint action by all parties to speed up response. Major economies should promote structural reforms and continue to optimize the economic structure. The EU is deepening the construction of a single market, focusing on increasing investment and improving competitiveness. The EU looks forward to strengthening macro-policy dialogue with China in the financial and financial fields, conducting in-depth exchanges on global economic rebalancing and fair competition, and jointly safeguarding global economic and financial stability.
