[Chen Jining meets with Peter Schenchel, Mayor of Hamburg, Germany] October 16th: Chen Jining, Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, met with Peter Schenchel, Mayor of Hamburg, Germany, and his delegation this morning (October 16). Chen Jining said that China and Germany are the world's major economies and all-round strategic partners. In February this year, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Merz held a meeting in Beijing to provide strategic guidance for deepening bilateral relations. We are willing to work with Germany to open up more communication channels, create more cooperation platforms, and make positive contributions to the deepening and solidification of bilateral relations. Shanghai and Hamburg are both cities born from the sea, prospered from the port, and connected to the world because of openness. Since the establishment of sister-city relations, they have cooperated closely and achieved fruitful results in the fields of economy and trade, science and technology innovation, ports, education, culture, tourism and other fields.
Shanghai will always practice the urban character of openness, innovation and inclusiveness, take the 40th anniversary of sister-city cooperation as a new starting point, seize the opportunities of green and intelligent transformation, deepen exchanges, mutual learning and pragmatic cooperation around green shipping, smart ports, technological innovation and resilient city construction, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, especially youth exchanges, art exchanges, cultural and tourism interactions, and achieve a higher level of mutual benefit and win-win results.
Peter Chenchel said that Hamburg and Shanghai are important economic, trade and shipping centers of the two countries, and they are proud of the sister-city relationship they have established. The two cities have always carried out exchanges in various fields with an open attitude towards embracing the world, and have become a model for local cooperation between Germany and China. We hope to take the 40th anniversary of the sister-city relationship as a new opportunity to seize new development opportunities, connect with new partners, further strengthen cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, and technological innovation, strengthen cooperation and docking, and share experience and wisdom around promoting green and low-carbon transformation of logistics and sustainable urban development, continue to enhance friendship while promoting personnel exchanges, and work together to create a better tomorrow through mutual benefit and win-win results.
