[French Minister of Justice: 2,513 people have been detained and 67 people have been imprisoned since this weekend] On October 20, French Justice Minister Darmanin stated that since the violence occurred during demonstrations last weekend, 2,513 people have been detained by the police across the country. The detention procedures for many of them are still ongoing, and another 67 people have been imprisoned. In an interview, Darmanin also said that he had issued instructions to prosecutors' offices across France, requesting that relevant cases be classified and handled as "organized crime." The legal characterization would extend the period of police detention from 48 hours to 72 hours and allow investigative measures such as geolocation and phone monitoring to find out where those involved were when stores were looted and city halls were attacked.
