[The Embassy in the UK reminds Chinese citizens to pay attention to British immigration inspections] October 20th: Recently, there have been many cases of Chinese citizens being detained and interrogated by British border law enforcement officers for long periods of time when entering and exiting the UK, and their mobile phones and other electronic devices have been seized. The Chinese personnel involved in the case include members of the economic and trade delegation visiting the UK, people visiting relatives in the UK for personal reasons, and ordinary tourists. British border law enforcement officials claimed to act in accordance with the relevant provisions of the British Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act 2019. China is seriously concerned about this and has lodged stern representations with the UK. We will continue to urge the UK to stop arbitrarily detaining and interrogating Chinese citizens and make every effort to safeguard the personal safety and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens in the UK. The Embassy in the UK reminds Chinese citizens who are already in the UK or planning to come to the UK to effectively improve their awareness of self-security and protection, protect their personal property and privacy, and pay attention to the relevant British regulations and practices to avoid inconvenience and losses to themselves when entering and exiting the UK. If Chinese citizens in the UK need consular assistance, they can call the consular protection and assistance hotline of the embassy or consulate in the UK and the global consular protection and service emergency hotline of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
