[Anthropic was sued for using copyright-protected music to train Claude AI model] On October 23, according to Reservoir Music Management Company, Anthropic PBC was suspected of copying copyright-protected lyrics without authorization and used them to train its Claude AI model without paying any copyright fees in the entire process. The music publisher claimed that the infringement involved in the case was still ongoing. Except for the training session, the output content generated by Claude was an almost complete reproduction of the relevant songs, which included copyrighted works held by Reservoir. In its complaint, Reservoir asked the court to award statutory damages, issue a permanent injunction, and apply for other related relief, claiming that Anthropic's actions seriously damaged the commercial value of its copyright licensing business and violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
