[Iran says two supertankers hit mines and exploded in the southern Strait of Hormuz] On October 24, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy announced that two supertankers trying to illegally pass through the southern Strait of Hormuz hit mines earlier that day. The explosion and fire crippled its engine room and left it moored in place. The two oil tankers, carrying a total of more than 4.5 million barrels of crude oil, were abandoned in the southern Strait of Hormuz after hitting a mine. The crew abandoned the ship and escaped.
