[BNP Paribas: If SpaceX builds its own mobile communications network across the United States, it is expected to require an investment of US$105 billion within five years] BNP Paribas said on October 26 that if SpaceX chooses to build its own mobile communications network covering the entire United States, it is expected to need to invest approximately US$105 billion within five years, including US$75 billion in capital expenditures and US$30 billion in cumulative operating costs, not including spectrum procurement and financing costs. The bank estimates that it will cost about US$25 billion to deploy 80,000 large base stations, about US$40 billion to build a network including 15,000 mobile phone direct-connect satellites, and another US$10 billion for other network equipment and retail service systems. BNP Paribas pointed out that SpaceX currently faces a key strategic choice: if it signs a large-scale long-term lease agreement with communication tower companies, it may need to continue to pay rent even if it gives up the use of related facilities in the future, thus limiting the space for strategic adjustments. Another option is to reach a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreement with existing operators such as T-Mobile and rent their terrestrial networks to provide communication services to avoid duplicating the construction of a nationwide base station network.
