[Cyprus will start construction of its first offshore natural gas field] On October 27, the Cyprus government and Italian oil giant Eni signed a contract worth US$1.8 billion on the 26th to promote the construction phase of Cyprus’ first offshore natural gas field, the Cronos gas field project. The project is expected to be put into operation in 2028 and will transport natural gas from the Eastern Mediterranean to the European market.
