[TD Securities: The Bank of Canada is expected to raise interest rates again in December] On October 29, after the Bank of Canada raised interest rates by 25 basis points for the first time in more than three years, TD Securities strategists advanced their forecast for the next time the Bank of Canada will raise interest rates from January next year to December this year. "The Bank of Canada tends to adjust interest rates continuously after prolonged pauses, and we believe the bar for another rate hike in December is low," strategists including Andrew Kelvin wrote in a note on Wednesday. While the Bank of Canada acknowledged there is "little evidence that higher oil prices are transmitting to broader price pressures beyond airfares," the bank has highlighted concerns about inflation while downplaying risks to future economic growth and the labor market, strategists said. However, they warned that a December rate hike "should not be seen as a done deal" as the Bank of Canada's language emphasized the need to "proceed with caution." Strategists still expect the Bank of Canada to end its current rate hike cycle after rates rise to 2.75%, 25 basis points above the current overnight rate.
