[South Korean prosecutors once again requested the death penalty for former President Yoon Seok-yue] On October 29, the Seoul High Court in South Korea held a closing trial on former President Yoon Seok-yue's alleged instigation of civil strife. The special prosecution team once again requested the court to sentence Yin Seok-yue to death. The special prosecution team pointed out that Yin Xiyue was accused of initiating civil unrest due to the declaration of emergency martial law on December 3, 2024. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance. The sentence was too light and he should be sentenced to the death penalty, the maximum statutory penalty in accordance with the law. The special prosecution team characterized the emergency martial law as a "guardian coup" aimed at long-term monopoly of power. It believed that the relevant actions seriously undermined South Korea's constitutional order and were of a bad nature, so the sentence should not be lenient. (CCTV News)
