[Ministry of Defense: Urges Japan to face up to and reflect on its history of aggression] On October 29, the Ministry of National Defense held a regular press conference. The spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense, Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, answered reporters’ questions. Reporter: According to reports, the Japanese Defense Minister recently said that China continues to rapidly expand its nuclear power, missiles and other military capabilities; Japan neither possesses nuclear weapons nor strategic bombers, while China possesses both types of equipment, but in turn criticizes Japan. He also claimed that Japan will fundamentally reorganize its defense research institutions. What is China’s comment on this?
Zhang Xiaogang: As we all know, Japan was a defeated country in World War II and must abide by international documents such as the Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Proclamation and the provisions of the Japanese Constitution on limiting military development. This is the political and legal prerequisite for its return to the international community. As a non-nuclear weapon party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, Japan cannot shirk its international legal obligations not to accept, manufacture, possess or proliferate nuclear weapons, and there is no room for bargaining.
This Japanese official deliberately avoids historical responsibility, selectively ignores international law, confuses right and wrong, and confuses the public. The world's eyes are sharp, and Japan's sophistry cannot conceal its dangerous plot to strengthen its military, expand its weapons, and even acquire and detonate nuclear weapons. We urge Japan to face up to and reflect on its history of aggression, completely break away from militarism, and not to go on the opposite side of the international community again.
