[The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the resolutions related to outer space of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly] On October 30, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun hosted a regular press conference. A reporter asked a question about the resolution adopted by the Disarmament and International Security Committee of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (First Committee) on further practical measures to prevent an arms race in outer space and not to be the first to deploy weapons in outer space. In this regard, Guo Jiakun said that China has always advocated the peaceful use of outer space to maintain outer space security and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind in outer space. Since 2017, China has jointly proposed to the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly every year, together with relevant countries, two resolutions on further practical measures to prevent an arms race in outer space and no first deployment of weapons in outer space. China firmly opposes the weaponization and arms race in outer space, calls for the formulation of international legal instruments through negotiations, maintains lasting peace and common security in outer space, and promotes the building of a community with a shared future for mankind in the outer space field. The First Committee of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly once again passed the above-mentioned resolution with a high vote. This is the tenth consecutive year that the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind has been included in the UN General Assembly’s outer space resolutions. It fully demonstrates that this concept conforms to the trend of the times, meets the general expectations of the international community, and has become an international public product of great significance in today’s world. The "China's Position on Strengthening Outer Space Governance" released not long ago is in the same vein. China is willing to work with the international community to build a peaceful, secure, open and cooperative outer space territory and promote the results of outer space exploration to benefit all mankind.
