[The Pentagon was revealed to have asked European allies to tone down their tough rhetoric on Russia] On October 30, people familiar with the matter recently disclosed that U.S. Defense Department officials have asked some NATO allies in Europe to be more restrained in speaking publicly about the so-called Russian threat in the past few weeks, on the grounds that such tough remarks are harmful to European security.
