[China launches comprehensive marine geophysical survey in waters under China's jurisdiction east of Taiwan Island] September 3rd, in order to comprehensively understand the basic geological and seafloor structural characteristics of waters under China's jurisdiction and serve the construction of "one map" for natural resource management and territorial spatial planning, the Second Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources conducted a comprehensive marine geophysical survey in the waters east of Taiwan Island, China, from August 10 to 31. It was learned from the Ministry of Natural Resources that this survey adopted multi-disciplinary simultaneous investigation methods and used multi-beam, multi-channel seismic, submarine seismic, gravity and magnetic and other technologies to collect basic data on the seabed environment including seabed topography, sedimentary strata, deep geological structures, geophysical fields, etc. This has accumulated data for China to further understand the seabed geological and geophysical characteristics of the sea area, carry out geological research on seabed sedimentation, structure, deep crustal structure and dynamic evolution process in the sea east of Taiwan Island, and also provided a scientific basis for China to carry out comprehensive management of sea areas under its jurisdiction in this sea area.
