[Australian and French scientists jointly developed the world's first titanium-polymer open-pore hybrid lattice metamaterial to overcome the fundamental problem that metal lattice structures are difficult to float] On September 7, scientists from Australia's Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and France's National School of Arts and Crafts worked together to develop the world's first titanium-polymer open-pore hybrid lattice metamaterial. Not only does it float, it's also more resistant to seawater erosion than the stainless steel or high-density plastic currently used for docks, buoys and floating sensors. This new invention overcomes the fundamental problem that metal lattice structures are difficult to float. The relevant paper was published in the latest issue of the magazine "Advanced Materials".
