[New York Fed: U.S. consumers’ inflation expectations for the next year have declined] September 8th, the New York Fed’s consumer survey showed that U.S. consumers’ inflation expectations for the next year in August were 3.58%, lower than 3.63% in July. However, the expected increase in gasoline prices in the next year increased to 4.61% from 2.89% in July. The proportion of respondents who expect the unemployment rate to be higher than the current level in one year's time rose to 44.42%, the highest level since 2020. At the same time, the proportion of consumers who expect to be unable to make minimum debt payments in the next three months has also increased, rising to 13.16% from 12.00% in the previous month.
