[Copper price approaches US$15,000, triggering 'bubble' warning, analysts say the rally may be unsustainable] On September 10, copper prices remained stable near record highs. As this round of gains approached US$15,000 per ton, investors began to evaluate possible headwinds. London Metal Exchange (LME) copper prices were on track to rise for an 11th consecutive week. Much of the rally stems from hundreds of thousands of tons of copper being shipped to the United States, causing supplies to tighten elsewhere. Copper prices were also supported by a weaker U.S. dollar and optimism about the outlook for data center demand. However, analysts are beginning to warn that the rally may be unsustainable as some of the drivers appear fragile. At the same time, base metals also face the risk that the Federal Reserve may turn to a hawkish stance. Traders are awaiting U.S. inflation data due on Friday, which could reinforce expectations for further rises in interest rates.
