[A fire accident on a cargo ship at Beihai Shipyard in Qingdao, Shandong Province has killed 20 people] September 10th, at around 11:15 on September 10, 2026, a fire broke out on a foreign cargo ship during maintenance at Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. There were 42 people on board, of whom 12 were safely evacuated; 5 were injured and sent to the hospital (currently their vital signs are stable); 25 people are missing. The open fire was extinguished around 2:30 p.m. As of 5:30 p.m., 20 missing people had been rescued, none of whom had vital signs. After the accident, Shandong Province and Qingdao City immediately activated the emergency response mechanism and organized emergency, fire rescue, public security, health, industry and information technology departments to fully carry out rescue work.
