[Fatah officials express doubts about holding Palestinian legislative elections as scheduled] September 11th, Jibril Rajoub, secretary-general of the Central Committee of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah), expressed doubts about holding the Palestinian Legislative Council elections as scheduled in November and called for a national dialogue before the elections to reach consensus on the electoral mechanism. In an interview that day in Ramallah, a city in the central West Bank, Rajoub said that current signs indicate that it is not feasible to hold legislative council elections on November 28, but elections were and still are Palestine’s strategic choice and path to power. Rajoub stressed that before moving forward with the elections, a comprehensive national dialogue must be held to agree on electoral mechanisms. He noted that without a framework for national unity and internal reform, Palestinians will continue to be trapped in a "vicious cycle" without achieving results.
