[Report: The Yangtze River Delta’s innovation and sourcing capabilities lead the country and gather about 35% of the country’s high-tech enterprises] From September 11 to 14, the 2026 Pujiang Innovation Forum (19th) was held in Shanghai. Zhu Xueyan, deputy director of the Shanghai Institute of Science, released the "Construction of Shanghai (Yangtze River Delta) International Science and Technology Innovation Center - Think Tank Observation Report" during the forum. The report points out that the Yangtze River Delta leads the country in innovation and sourcing capabilities. The total social R&D investment in these three provinces and one city exceeds 30% of the country's total, national laboratories exceed one-third of the country's total, national key laboratories and double-first-class universities account for approximately one-quarter of the country's total, and the number of R&D personnel per 10,000 people is close to twice the national average. It gathers about 35% of the country's high-tech enterprises, nearly 40% of the unicorn companies and nearly 50% of the gazelle companies, and the cumulative number of national-level advanced manufacturing clusters cultivated accounts for 32.5% of the country.
