[Carney urges 10 EU countries to ratify the Canada-EU Free Trade Agreement] September 15th, Canadian Prime Minister Carney accepted an interview with the Financial Times on the 14th, calling on the 10 EU member states that have not ratified the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement to ratify the Canada-EU Free Trade Agreement, saying that deepening economic ties between Canada and the EU can make all parties more resilient, independent, and prosperous. Canada and the European Union signed the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement in Brussels in October 2016. The agreement will temporarily implement some measures in 2017, but all of them need to be approved by the parliaments of EU member states before they take effect. Currently, 10 of the 27 EU member states still have not approved it, mainly worried that Canadian agricultural exports will harm local European farmers.
