[WTO Report: Strengthening the multilateral trading system can boost the global economy] September 15th, the World Trade Organization released the "2026 World Trade Report" on September 15th, local time, stating that if the multilateral trading system is strengthened, global GDP is expected to increase by about 2.9% by 2050 compared with the baseline scenario, which is an increase of about 3 trillion US dollars, and global exports can grow by 17.9%. The report also warned that if countries do not take action and allow multilateral trade rules to be weakened, global output may fall by up to about 10%. WTO Director-General Iweala emphasized that currently, about 72% of global trade in goods is still conducted under the WTO’s most-favored-nation status. She said that although the global trade pattern has undergone major changes, it is still more beneficial for economies to achieve common development through cooperation than unilateral action.
