[Hong Kong released its first five-year plan, HSBC Liao Yijian: Hong Kong has the conditions to become a regional gold clearing hub and can develop RMB-denominated gold products] On September 16, Hong Kong released its first five-year plan. HSBC Asia and the Middle East Co-Chief Executive Officer Liao Yijian said that the relevant measures in the plan to support the development of the gold market are encouraging, and Hong Kong has the conditions to become a regional gold clearing hub and an important gateway to introduce global investors. Liao Yijian pointed out that Asia will account for more than 60% of global gold and silver bar demand in 2025, and Hong Kong trading hours can effectively connect Asia, Europe and the United States time zones, making it an ideal platform for cross-time zone spot, forward and swap transactions, especially for institutional clients adopting global strategies. In terms of product innovation, Liao Yijian welcomed the government's use of tokenization technology to promote the development of gold products. He believes that a mature gold trading hub can not only support the storage, trading, clearing and settlement of gold, but also drive the development of financial product ecosystems such as gold loans, inventory financing and risk management tools. Liao Yijian emphasized that as the world's largest offshore RMB center, Hong Kong has unique advantages in developing RMB-denominated gold products and looks forward to Hong Kong establishing a gold market that is large-scale and complies with internationally recognized risk management and control standards.
