[Global cancer cases may surge by 67% in 2050] On September 9, a report led by the American Cancer Society (ACS) revealed the severe situation of global cancer and pointed out that through prevention, early diagnosis and improved medical access, it is expected to reduce part of the cancer burden. According to the "Global Cancer Statistics 2026", approximately 21 million people around the world will be diagnosed with cancer in 2024, including 9.8 million deaths. It is estimated that about 1/5 of the world's population will develop cancer at some stage in their lives, and about 1/9 men and 1/13 women are expected to die from cancer. Driven by population growth and aging, global annual cancer cases are expected to climb to 34 million cases by 2050, an increase of 67% from 2024. The report was written by researchers from ACS and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a subsidiary of the World Health Organization. Relevant results were recently published in the Journal of Clinicians on Cancer. (China Science News)
