Microsoft recently once again injected artificial intelligence elements into its cloud storage service OneDrive, launching a new feature called AI Restyle for the OneDrive Photos experience, continuing to strengthen its product positioning as "more than just a simple cloud disk". Previously, Microsoft has introduced Photos Agent, new enterprise-level Copilot integration, and the ability to embed AI agents in the platform for OneDrive. This update further uses AI for creative editing of user photos.

AI Restyle mainly targets real photos stored in OneDrive, using generative AI to "redraw" the original images into works of art in a variety of styles. Users can convert daily photos into various visual styles such as animation, pencil sketches, comic-style exaggerated portraits, dolls, movie posters, etc. with one click, and will continue to receive new style choices in subsequent updates. Microsoft emphasized that no matter how it is redrawn, the core of the content still "clearly belongs to the user himself" and is just reinterpreted in terms of visual presentation.

According to information released by Microsoft, AI Restyle provides a series of functions around creative generation and personalization. On the one hand, the system will regularly add new style templates, and users can instantly generate new images based on these styles; on the other hand, the function supports more detailed personalized adjustments to photos through optional prompt words, so that the generated results are more in line with the user's imagination. In addition, users can quickly experiment and switch between different styles to easily select the most satisfactory version, and easily share the generated content to other applications or platforms.

Microsoft said it hopes to use AI Restyle to centralize users' real photos and AI creations in the same storage space to facilitate unified management and subsequent re-editing without the need to frequently switch between multiple applications. In this experience, OneDrive not only assumes the role of backup and synchronization, but also becomes the center for user image creation and re-creation.

Currently, AI Restyle has begun to be rolled out in phases to users of Android, iOS, and OneDrive on the web. However, it should be noted that this feature is only available to users who subscribe to Microsoft 365 Premium. This subscription is essentially an upgrade plan for Microsoft 365 Home Edition. The annual fee is as high as US$199.99, which has been evaluated by the outside world as "expensive" for ordinary consumers.

Microsoft revealed that AI Restyle will continue to iterate. In the future, Microsoft plans to expand this feature to more platforms, while unlocking richer image editing styles to provide users with more playability and creative space. In the context of generative AI fully penetrating office and personal productivity scenarios, OneDrive uses AI Restyle to further consolidate its positioning as a content storage and intelligent processing hub in the Microsoft ecosystem.
