"Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition" launches major update, new map and revolutionary route

📅 2026-09-21

Abstract:

"Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition" has launched a major update to coincide with the launch of the new expansion pack "Baltic Power". This update adds maps, revolutionary routes and other content, and adjusts the interface, campaign, civilization balance and anti-cheating measures. It is currently available on all platforms.

The update reduces the game size by approximately 10GB by optimizing textures. The interface of the spectator mode has also been changed, which can display the total population of both sides, the number of units destroyed and lost, and compare the collected resources; the cards sent by the players will be arranged in a separate panel. The deck manager adds shortcut keys for creating, saving, copying and deleting decks, and also supports direct viewing of revolutionary cards.

All players can get more than 25 taunting voices for team games and unlock two revolutionary routes. The Livonian Revolution is available to Germany, Malta, Poland and Sweden, with gameplay focusing on knights and Hanseatic trade; Germany can also choose the Prussian Revolution. The fishing boats of each civilization can now spend 80 wood to build fish cages that can continuously provide food, and some maritime powers have obtained new whaler cards.

There are also many changes to civilization and card balance. The Aztecs' second-era Jaguar unit has been nerfed, Britain's starting resources have been adjusted, and France no longer has a starting food chest. The weakening of the Ottomans includes reducing the damage of the Janissaries and Abs guns; Sweden and Russia get new cards, and some American tactics have also been adjusted.

The campaign mode has two new levels of difficulty: "Story" and "Absurd". The former is for a relaxed experience, while the latter provides higher challenges. The progress of the main city is changed to be shared within each chapter, and the original hidden level requirements of the cards are removed. This update also fixes problems such as missing attack sound effects, icon errors, and artificial intelligence anomalies in the campaign, and adds flags for easy selection of historical battles.

In terms of maps, all players can enter the historical map "Seven Years' War" and obtain two random maps of the Caspian Sea and Malta; Siberia, Panama and other regions are also added to the standard map pool. The scene editor has a new dark theme, animation and unit conversion tools, the lens editing function has been improved, and the artificial intelligence in the scene will form armies and configure decks more rationally.
