Abstract:

On Thursday evening local time

, Tesla held a press conference in Texas to showcase its long-delayed next-generation Roadster sports car.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been warming up the new Roadster on social platform

New Roadster

In fact, when Tesla first released this car in 2017, it promised a number of eye-catching performance indicators, including a cruising range of 620 miles (approximately 998 kilometers) and acceleration from standstill to 60 miles per hour (approximately 97 kilometers per hour) in 1.9 seconds.

As a major gimmick at this conference, Tesla first demonstrated the flight function of the new Roadster. Previous reports stated that this feature utilizes SpaceX’s rocket technology.

Roadster on the ramp

At the press conference, the Roadster rushed up a ramp at an unexpectedly slow speed, stayed upside down for a few seconds, and then fell back to the ground. It spins out from the top of the ramp with its body upside down, and the jet device is immediately activated to help it slow down and land smoothly on the ground like a rocket.

It is equipped with an adsorption system that allows the car to be firmly adsorbed on the ramp when it is inverted. Previous reports stated that the conference was held in a strictly controlled environment at a SpaceX rocket testing facility near Waco.

Roadster in the air

Roadster is a two-seater car that uses a steer-by-wire system. The propeller and fan are located at the rear of the vehicle. Musk said the rear wing can automatically adjust according to the owner's driving conditions.

It can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in less than a second. The coverage of Addiction Technology Live is 0.81 seconds.

While the demonstration was stunning, Tesla says the car won't go into mass production until 2028.
