Folding screen Apple phone reveals new name: iPhone Duo

📅 2026-09-05

Abstract:

In external rumors, the highly anticipated foldable iPhone is often called iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold, but now another name has spread: iPhone Duo. There is currently no evidence that Apple will adopt the name iPhone Duo, but the naming is indeed a possibility. Apple has used the Duo brand in the past: the PowerBook Duo series of notebooks in the 1990s, and the MagSafe dual charger launched in the early 2020s.

Duo here refers to the dual-screen design of the folding iPhone.

Microsoft launched a dual-screen Android phone Surface Duo in 2020, which has been discontinued; Intel also launched the popular Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors in the 2000s. Influenced by these past products, Apple may deliberately avoid the Duo name. However, other competing manufacturers are also using the Ultra and Fold names, such as Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8.

In April, former "Macworld" reporter Felipe Esposito cited sources familiar with Apple's plans as saying that the foldable iPhone would be named iPhone Ultra. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that many employees within Apple called the device iPhone Ultra, but he never confirmed that this would be the official name of the device.

Apple has used the Ultra name for Apple Watch Ultra, CarPlay Ultra, as well as M1 Ultra, M2 Ultra, M3 Ultra and M5 Ultra chips.
