Abstract:
Google has launched the "Expert Intelligence" function for its AI note-taking application Gemini Notebook. Users can now directly import books purchased from Google Play Books into the application, and ask questions, make plans, generate infographics, and create AI podcasts around the content of the book.
Google Lab Editorial Director Steven Johnson demonstrated the application scenarios of this feature: the system can generate a recipe book based on information from Michael Pollan's book "Eating Rules"; in another example, Gemini Notebook uses ideas from Kim Scott's management book "Radical Candor" to answer the question of how to have difficult conversations with employees. Users can also view the full text of the book directly in Notebook.
The first batch of more than 100,000 books will support the “Expert Intelligence” function. Participating publishers include Penguin Random House, Johns Hopkins University Press, Macmillan Press, O’Reilly Media, etc. Google also collaborated with 15 authors, including Pollan, Scott, Steven Pinker and Jennifer Wallace, to launch "Selected Notebooks". These author-customized notebooks will be supplemented with additional materials, introductory letters, and other content. Books that support this feature will be marked "Gemini Notebook" under the "Tools" tab of Google Play Books.
Johnson said he was interested in building a knowledge collection of creators he valued, giving users the ideal team of advisors they could always use and take with them.
Google also stated that it has set up protection measures in Gemini Notebook to prevent other users from accessing book content that they have not purchased.
