Abstract:
According to "Business Insider",
Google just released a new AI model this month, but its employees have already begun testing the next model. Some Google employees have started using a preview version of Gemini 3.8 Flash, underscoring the breakneck pace at which the AI race is advancing.
In order to catch up with OpenAI and Anthropic, Google continues to launch new models, sometimes only a few weeks apart.

Pichai said he strives to release a new model every month
According to pictures obtained by "Business Insider", this new model called "Gemini 3.8 Flash Preview" has been opened to employees on Google's internal programming platform Jetski.
An employee who is testing the new model said that the new model feels significantly better than Gemini 3.7 Flash, but emphasized that it is too early to draw a full conclusion now.
Because Gemini 3.5 Pro has not been released, and Anthropic and OpenAI are leading the AI competition, Google now has no top models. Instead, Google is doubling down on its "Flash" line of models at a time when customers are starting to pay closer attention to their AI bills. Such models are faster and cheaper to use.
Google calls these models "workhorse models" for programming and running agents.
An agent often consumes word elements faster than a chatbot during operation. Intelligent assistants designed to help users handle daily tasks are becoming the next hot topic that AI companies are chasing. Google launched its Gemini Spark agent earlier this year, and Meta is also testing its "Hatch" agent internally.Google has been improving its Flash model at an extremely fast pace.
Gemini 3.6 Flash was launched in July, followed three weeks later by 3.7 Flash. During Google's second-quarter earnings call, CEO Sundar Pichai said the company would strive to maintain an almost monthly release cadence.
Testing of the preview version by Google employees shows that the public launch of Gemini 3.8 Flash may not be far away, but it is not a certainty. Some eagle-eyed AI enthusiasts are convinced that they have spotted traces of Gemini 3.8 Flash on Arena AI. Arena AI is a website for benchmarking models. Google has previously used the platform to test new models for upcoming releases.
