Abstract:
Perplexity, an artificial intelligence search company, has officially launched a new enterprise-level AI intelligent product "Teammates" to further compete with OpenAI and Anthropic. This new feature is positioned as a long-running AI assistant for work scenarios that can continue to run in the user's workspace and assume a variety of different responsibilities at the same time. According to Perplexity, Teammates can leverage users’ existing projects, skill libraries, and historical memory information to support ongoing work tasks.

Teammates is built on Perplexity’s previously launched “Computer” system. The latter is able to call AI agents to perform specific tasks on user devices, while Teammates further expands this capability and is no longer limited to single task processing, but focuses on managing and advancing long-term, large-scale work projects. The system can coordinate the collaborative operation of multiple AI agents, allowing different agents to handle their respective work contents at the same time.
Similar to OpenAI’s Dots and Anthropic’s Claude Duet, Teammates adopts a multi-agent collaboration model. Users can assign different responsibilities to each agent, such as marketing, sales, customer support, operations management, or financial analysis. Multiple agents can perform tasks in parallel and collaborate with each other based on overall project progress.
Perplexity said that Teammates is not just a tool for automatically executing orders, but can continue to be responsible for project advancement. The system plans work content, tracks execution, and proactively takes action based on changes in the environment. For example, in a sales scenario, the agent can discover that a long-term customer has stopped placing orders, and then actively analyzes the order history and after-sales records, investigates the reasons and proposes solutions, and even generates discounts or reminds the team to intervene.
In terms of product design, each Teammate has an independent and persistent conversation thread. Users can view their work status, completed tasks, and latest progress at any time, and adjust the direction of tasks at any time. The system also has memory capabilities that can record project goals, execution history, and shared file content, allowing subsequent tasks to build on the results of previous work without the need to frequently reinterpret background information.
Perplexity also integrates Slack into its product system. Enterprise employees can interact with AI agents directly in the Slack channel, assign tasks to them, check progress or obtain results. At the same time, different intelligent agents can also hand over work to each other. For example, after one agent discovers a vulnerability in a website, it can forward the findings to another agent who is responsible for formulating a repair plan.
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas said the company’s long-term vision is to have every employee surrounded by a large number of AI colleagues. He believes that in the future, everyone in every organization may have hundreds of dedicated agents to assist in daily tasks, freeing human employees from a large amount of repetitive coordination work.
However, compared with its competitors, Perplexity’s products are not cheap. Teammates is currently only available to Perplexity Max subscribers, which costs $200 per month. This makes it one of the highly positioned enterprise-level AI agent products on the market.
From a strategic perspective, the launch of Teammates marks that Perplexity is accelerating its transformation from a company known for its AI search and question and answer services to a platform provider for the enterprise productivity and work automation market. As OpenAI, Anthropic and other AI companies launch intelligent agent systems that can continuously operate, the competition around "AI colleagues" and "digital workers" is rapidly heating up.
The industry generally believes that the competitive focus of the new generation of AI products is shifting from chatbots to intelligent agent platforms that can perform tasks autonomously, manage projects over the long term, and be deeply integrated with enterprise software. The launch of Teammates by Perplexity is an important layout under this trend. Its goal is to gain more share in the enterprise AI automation market.
