Abstract:
A new Sony patent proposes using artificial intelligence to compensate for player control inputs and help users with physical or mobility limitations complete game operations. The solution identifies actions that the player failed to complete and generates the input required to complete the corresponding command.

This patent was published on September 17, 2026. The artificial intelligence model described in the document analyzes the way the player uses the controller, including the timing and duration of inputs, movement patterns, personal physical limitations and in-game situations, and then determines the amount of input that needs to be compensated.
For example, the patent states that users may have difficulty operating the left buttons, pushing the left joystick, pressing the trigger button, or using other controls on the handle. At this point, the system can generate the control signals required to perform the target action based on the input that the controller has received.

The model will be trained using at least some control component pressing patterns and controller accessibility data. The system can also adjust the level of compensation based on the specific user, controller used and game state, and predict what actions the player may want to complete based on initial input or overall play history.
The system can run locally on the device or through the cloud. In multiplayer games, AI assistance features can be automatically disabled by setting or turned off by the player; other players may also see a corresponding logo to confirm whether a player has enabled this accessibility feature.

Unlike just adjusting the button layout or providing a fixed assist mode, the model in the patent will adapt to the player's movement restrictions and identifiable operating habits to improve the smoothness of the operation and the barrier-free experience.
The patent does not explicitly limit the technology to PlayStation controllers. The model adopts a design that is independent of the specific controller and can generate corresponding control output according to the device the user is using. Therefore, it may also be applied to devices outside the Sony ecosystem in the future.
