Abstract:

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) stated on September 28 that e-sports events will continue to be held in the Asian Games and will continue to support the development of e-sports in Asia. This statement is inconsistent with the decision adopted by the Executive Committee in 2024 to remove the official competition event after the game.

On November 26, 2024, the Executive Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia passed a resolution to remove e-sports from the official events of the Asian Games after the Aichi Nagoya Asian Games and hold the Asian E-sports and Mind Games separately. The resolution document stated that the decision was unanimously adopted by the Executive Committee.

During the current Aichi Nagoya Asian Games, the Olympic Council of Asia also signed a host city contract with Kuwait, announcing that the first Asian Esports and Mind Games will be held in Kuwait in 2027.

Regarding the statement that e-sports will withdraw from the Asian Games, Husain Al Musallam, Director-General of the Olympic Council of Asia, stated through the official WeChat that e-sports will continue to be carried out in the Asian Games. The Olympic Council of Asia stated that it has not issued an announcement to withdraw e-sports from the Asian Games, and the relevant statements are inconsistent with official arrangements; holding another Asian E-sports and Mind Games will not weaken the status of e-sports in the Asian Games system.
