It is rumored that the length of "The New Batman 2" directed by Matt Reeves may exceed 3 hours and 30 minutes, but this number has not yet been confirmed. If the news is true, the film will be among the longest-running superhero movies and may set a new theatrical run record for the genre.
The previous film "The New Batman" directed by Reeves, starring Robert Pattinson, has a running time of 2 hours and 55 minutes, of which the end credits account for about 8 minutes. It therefore became the longest Batman movie at the time, surpassing "The Dark Knight Rises" directed by Christopher Nolan, which lasted 2 hours and 44 minutes. The previous film could have been longer: The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the rough cut Warner Bros. used for test screenings was about 4 hours long.
As a reference to the length of the film, "Avengers 4: Endgame" is 181 minutes excluding ending credits. "Zack Snyder's version of Justice League" is 4 hours and 2 minutes long, but this director's cut has not been released in theaters. Therefore, if "Batman 2" reaches the rumored length, it could become the longest-running superhero movie in theaters.
The schedule of "Batman 2" has been adjusted several times. The film was originally scheduled to be released on October 3, 2025, but was later moved to October 2, 2026 and October 1, 2027. Previously cited reasons for the delay include strikes by writers and actors, as well as the time it takes for Reeves to continue revising the script.
