"Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remastered Edition" trial: manual jumping and running make exploration more agile

📅 2026-10-15

Abstract:

Recently, the author of Polygon tried out the remake of the Switch 2 version of "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" for about 30 minutes. He believes that the new manual jumping and running make movement and exploration more agile, and the game also retains the atmosphere of the original. The demo covers the opening, the interior of the Great Deku Tree, the Hyrule Plains, the castle town, and part of the process of adult Link exploring the Forest Temple.

During the opening sequence, Link can now manually jump by pressing a button. The author believes that when acquiring initial equipment, picking up and throwing items, and dealing with simple battles, the movements are faster and more accurate. After obtaining props, players can also use buttons to cycle between secondary weapons and items to reduce operational pauses.

When heading to the castle town, the new running ability allows Link to cross the vast Hyrule Plains faster. The adventure record in the main menu will prompt the story progress and the next destination, which the author believes will help players reconnect with the plot. The castle town has people coming and going, conversations, and branch opportunities to explore.

Upon entering the Forest Temple, the author noticed the ancient atmosphere created by vines, moss, textures, lighting, and ground-hugging mist. He believes that the visual treatment made the various areas of the temple easier to distinguish, and the adjusted architectural details also made the space appear more realistic, while retaining the characteristics of the original work. Due to trial time constraints, he has not yet met the temple boss.
