In October 2023, Microsoft released a new version of OneDrive cloud storage service for Microsoft 365 users. Today, the company unveiled a new user interface design for OneDrive for all individual users. Microsoft said in a blog post that the new OneDrive is designed to let you find the files you need faster:
An improved visual design reduces clutter and distractions so you can focus on what matters. With the improved OneDrive, you can spend less time looking for files and more time doing what you need to do. These changes are consistent across the entire app, giving you a seamless, consistent experience.
One of the new features designed into OneDrive is the People view. Microsoft says:
We know you have many important people in your life - from friends and family to community members. When life gets busy with everything from school to soccer practice, it's often easier to remember who sent you a file rather than the file name. We've created a new People view to match your view of the world - based on the people you spend time with every day.
The revamped user interface also includes new filters to quickly find the files you need based on file format (Word, PDF, Excel, etc.).
OneDrive now has an improved "Add New File" button. In addition to uploading new files to your OneDrive account, the button also allows you to create new documents such as Word files and Excel spreadsheets without launching an external application. You can also view all the commands that can access a specific file or folder by clicking on its context menu, such as Delete, Move to, Download, etc.
Microsoft has just started rolling out the revamped OneDrive experience to users and says it will be generally available to all users by the end of February.
