For the upcoming 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models, Apple will rely on different OLED display suppliers, with Samsung specializing in 11-inch panels and LG producing 13-inch panels. According to TheElec, Samsung has consolidated its position as the sole supplier of the first batch of OLED displays for the 11-inch model, which is also the first batch of OLED displays to be mass-produced for the launch of the next-generation iPad Pro.

LG originally planned to also start producing 11-inch OLED panels, but currently the two panel companies each only produce one type of OLED display. Initial production from both suppliers began last month.

Industry insiders believe that the reason for the division of labor by product model is that Apple's demand prospects for OLED iPad Pro models have changed, as well as the unstable production capacity and output of the two suppliers, who are still exploring Apple's requirements for new panel technology. Apple is rumored to be aiming for "unparalleled" image quality, as well as a design that reduces the thickness and weight of the iPad's display.

According to the report, the situation may change after the first batch of products are put into production, depending on fluctuations in production and possible adjustments to Apple's demand forecast for the new OLED iPad Pro. According to reports, Apple’s shipment forecast for this year has dropped to 8 million units from 10 million units expected in 2024 last year.

This is the first time that an OLED display has appeared in the iPad series. Apple has been using OLED technology on its iPhone and Apple Watch because larger OLED screens are more expensive. OLED delivers deeper blacks and more vivid colors than LED or mini-LED. OLED iPad Pro models are likely to be significantly thinner than current LED versions thanks to new display technology. For example, the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro may be more than 1 mm thinner.

In addition to new displays, iPad Pro models are expected to feature Apple's latest M3 chip, which debuted on new MacBook Pro models last year. The M3 chip uses 3 nanometer technology and will have significant improvements in graphics processing compared to the M2 chip currently used in iPad Pro.

The new display is expected to appear on iPad Pro models as soon as March 2024.
