Microsoft invests in "European version of OpenAI" Musk commented: So they closed the source?

Microsoft on Monday announced a new partnership with French startup MistralAI, which is considered the European version of ChatGPT developer OpenAI. Microsoft said in a statement that it would invest 2 billion euros to help MistralAI open "new business opportunities" and expand into global markets, but did not provide further financial details.

Under the agreement, Mistral's Large Language Models (LLMs) - the technology behind its generative AI products - will be available on Microsoft's Azure cloud computing platform, becoming the second company after OpenAI to host LLMs on the platform.

Microsoft will also help the startup gain new customers with the launch of its ChatGpt-style multilingual conversational assistant called LeChat.

Microsoft President Brad Smith said on Monday that the deal was an "important" signal of the company's support for European technology.

One X user posted: "I'm not going to lie; I'm sorry Mistral didn't open source any of their models. I thought they were from the OSS team."

Another user retweeted Microsoft CEO Nadella's announcement of cooperation with MistralAI and commented: "This may be the reason."

Musk responded: "Did Microsoft tell them to close the source?"
