The official website of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2022 announced that in the final of the Asian Games version of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou yesterday, the Chinese team defeated the Malaysian team 2-0 and won the gold medal in the event. This is also the first gold medal in the e-sports event of the Hangzhou Asian Games.

It is reported that e-sports in Asia first became popular in South Korea, and then gradually developed to China, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand and other countries. On November 18, 2003, the State Sports General Administration officially approved e-sports as the 99th official sports competition. In 2008, the State Sports General Administration approved e-sports as the 78th official sports competition.

The 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta will include e-sports as a performance event. On December 16, 2020, at the 39th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia, e-sports was approved as an official event of the Hangzhou Asian Games. A total of 7 projects have been determined for the competition, namely League of Legends, Honor of Kings Asian Games version, Peace Elite Asian Games version, Dota, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, Street Fighter 5, Football Online 4, including 5 PC projects and 2 mobile game projects, and includes MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), Sports Simulation (SPG) and many other popular e-sports categories, making the Hangzhou Asian Games e-sports events exciting.

At the same time, as a new type of sports, e-sports’ competition forms also vary with different categories and platforms, and the corresponding schedules and rules are also relatively diverse. Currently, the more well-known e-sports competitions such as WCG, IEM, WEG, CPL, NEST, etc. use rules including single-elimination elimination system, double-elimination elimination system, intra-group double round-robin system, etc. Individual events use single-elimination system. The competition systems applicable to different types of events are also quite different. Among them, most team events at the Jakarta Asian Games use a single round-robin system within the group, while most individual events use a single-elimination elimination system. The Hangzhou Asian Games e-sports competitions will be decided by the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee and the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) on technical issues such as competition formats and venue arrangements.

The Hangzhou Asian Games e-sports competition will be held from September 24th to October 2nd at the Hangzhou E-sports Center in China. A total of 7 gold medals will be produced.
