Recently, a war of words between European and American player groups and a company called SweetBaby Inc. has become a hot topic in the gaming circle. The cause of the matter was that a buddy named Kabrutusrambo established a Steam connoisseur page called "SweetBabyIncdetected" (hereinafter referred to as SBID).

The games listed on this page are all marked by him: Not Recommended!

Many of these games are AAA masterpieces from major manufacturers, such as "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla", "Suicide Squad: Defeat the Justice League" and so on.

While it's true that some of these games are a piece of shit (such as Suicide Squad), most of them have pretty good reviews.

There is only one reason why Kabrutusrambo does not recommend them: these games are all participated by such a company:

SweetBabyInc.

What is the origin of this company?

It is a consulting firm that reviews and edits scripts given by game companies from a "diversity and inclusion" perspective.

To put it bluntly, it provides LGBT+ content consulting and optimization services to game companies, helping them create more "politically correct" content in their games.

For example, if some games have too many white people, the company will suggest that you change someone to be black, or whatever.

Its customers include Xbox Game Studios, EA, Valve, Santa Monica Studio, 2K, Ubisoft, SE, Warner Bros. Games and almost all major European and American companies.

For example, the black character Angboda in "God of War: Ragnarok" can be determined from this interview that he appeared because of the influence of SweetBabyInc.

In addition, in last year's "Spider-Man 2", the character Black Cat was designed to be bisexual. She clearly stated in a CG that she had a girlfriend.

You must know that in the original comics, although Black Cat has not explicitly stated her sexual orientation, her relationship with Spider-Man is both enemy and friend in the plot, and the relationship is very complicated (you know).

In the "Quantum Break" virtual TV series, Saja Anderson was once a blond white woman, but in "Alan Killer 2" she became a black woman.

In fact, except for Angboda in "God of War: Ragnarok", it is difficult for us to determine whether other character changes are related to SweetBabyInc, although it is involved in these games.

But it is obvious that some European and American players can no longer tolerate this kind of "magic change", so the Kabrutusrambo and SBID groups appeared. This group attracted the attention and discussion of thousands of members in a short period of time.

To be honest, a group of several thousand people is not a small number in the Steam player community, but it cannot be said to have huge influence.

What really made this matter fermented was the remarks of SweetBabyInc. employees on Twitter.

Company consultant Maya Felix Kramer posted a long article condemning it, saying that Steam players can create a group at will and list any game. Isn't it weird to warn others not to buy it? ?

Another writer and employee, Chris Kindred, was more direct. He followed Lu Benwei’s example and publicly called on his fans to attack Kabrutusrambo, and even posted his personal account.

And guess what?

The behavior of these two people had the opposite effect. Instead, players began to ridicule the behavior of SweetBabyInc.'s employees. In the end, Chris Kindred deleted all his tweets and SweetBabyInc.'s official account was also locked.

The SBID group has become popular and currently has 210,000 members.

At this point, it seems that the player group has achieved a major victory. Kabrutusrambo also publicly expressed his gratitude for everyone's support and said that let us work together to return the keys to the game industry to the players.

However, recently, some articles have appeared on some websites such as Kotaku and PCGamer, and the main themes are probablyIt is said that SweetBabyInc. did not force the game company to do these things, everything happened naturally.

There are even similar articles and discussions on Reddit, saying that SweetBabyInc. is completely innocent.

Players don't seem to accept this. For example, Alyssa Mercante, the author of the Kotaku article, also criticized netizens online.

He also said a classic saying, "You can't be racist against white people, everyone knows it."

Then this person's account was sprayed until it was locked.

To add some additional knowledge, the CEO of SweetBaby Inc. has also stated in public speeches that if game companies do not adopt their suggestions, they will "terrify" the game companies about the possible consequences of doing so.

To put it bluntly, many characters were added to the game under the forced promotion of companies like Sweetbaby.

Xiaofa suddenly thought, is there a possibility that if the original script is followed, it should be black, it should be white, and there are handsome boys and beautiful girls, the players will not say anything.

Many companies are afraid that they are not afraid of themselves, and the more they add, the more they feel it is not enough, and finally destroy the original game content.

Anyway, this matter is still highly discussed on the Internet so far, and it seems that it will not stop for a while.

Personally speaking, I have been playing games for so many years. For example, when I played "GTA5", I was not surprised that there was a black man like Franklin in the protagonist.

I don't find it strange that Lao Cui is bisexual.

Another example is the "Life is Strange" series. It doesn't matter to me whether the protagonist is gay or even bisexual. I was very attracted to Max and Chloe back then.

In fact, this type of characters can be found in games more than ten years ago, but they do not cause players to feel disgusted. This is because their background settings are complete and the entire characters are fully fleshed out.

But in many games nowadays, those "diverse" characters seem to have grown out of thin air. Although their performances in the game are wonderful and do not affect the plot, they will inevitably make people feel uncomfortable.

For example, let a black man suddenly appear in "God of War: Ragnarok" with the background of Nordic mythology, or turn a former blond white man into a black man.

So we, the older generation of artists, have to say it right, adaptation is not random editing, drama is not nonsense.

If you had this consciousness, would you deserve to be caught and sprayed every day like now?
