Research firm CCSInsight released a report today stating that by the end of 2023, there will be 1.3 billion iPhones in use, of which more than 50% will be second-hand phones. The prediction underscores the growing longevity of Apple's smartphones. According to CCSInsight, starting from 2024, the average lifespan of iPhone will reach 8 years.

CCSInsight has been tracking the used mobile phone market for the past few years. The company said in a report today that the iPhone is clearly the most reused smartphone. CCSInsight analyst Leo Gebbie said: "In the past few years, people's interest in second-hand iPhones has increased significantly."
LeoGebbie believes that one of the main reasons is the lack of major upgrades, and the difference between the two generations of iPhones is not very big. Gebbie said: "iPhone 15 has just come out and is better than iPhone 14, which is better than iPhone 13, but they are all incremental improvements and the difference is not particularly big."
Therefore, more and more consumers will say, "I can buy a brand new iPhone 15 for 1,000 pounds, but I can also buy a refurbished iPhone 13 with good quality for 400 to 500 pounds."
Gebbie said people's motivations for buying used iPhones are not purely financial. At the same time, consumers also realize that it is also good for the environment.
CCSInsight data shows that the current second-hand smartphone market is almost completely dominated by Apple. But Gebbie also pointed out: "This situation will affect Apple's revenue. At some point in the future, Apple may consider this issue more seriously."
