Apple announced that watchOS10 will be available for download starting on September 18. The update may be the biggest change to watchOS since Apple released its popular smartwatches, overhauling the previous honeycomb grid and adding widgets (Apple calls them "glances") that you can swipe on and customize.

The company also announced that Apple Watch Series 9 will handle Siri commands on the device. The new watch will also feature a new ultra-wideband chip that can detect when a HomePod is nearby so you can control it from the watch. Apple also upgraded an accessibility feature to a main feature of the operating system - double-tapping with a finger on the same hand as the watch can do things like answer calls or bring up Smart Stack gadgets.
Users can now scroll through widgets from the watch interface. The widgets are customizable, and watchOS also adds a Smart Stack of Widgets that uses machine learning to guess which widgets are most important to you throughout the day, making the Apple Watch feel more like using a compact iPhone.
There should be many users who will be satisfied with the updated application grid. The grid looks largely the same, with apps displayed as small round icons, but you no longer have to navigate through a sprawling honeycomb shape to find what you're looking for; instead, clusters of apps scroll vertically. If you prefer list mode, don't worry, this is still an option.
Finally, Apple changed the side button's functionality: pressing it once brings you to Control Center. Double-clicking can still enter Apple Wallet for NFC payment.
