"Smart Island" provides many new features, including airline flight information. The appearance of this year's iPhone is basically the same as the previous iPhone 14. The iPhone 15 continues to use a 6.1-inch display, and the Plus model is 6.7 inches.
In addition to the changes in Smart Island, the biggest obvious upgrade of iPhone 15 is the improved camera system. The main camera sensor has been increased from 12 million pixels in the previous generation iPhone 14 to 48 million pixels. Use pixel binning technology to synthesize the image into a high-resolution image of 24 million pixels. The phone's zoom has been improved, with 2x telephoto "optical quality" for more refined shots without sacrificing image quality.
Machine learning now automatically detects whether a person or pet is in the frame (cats and dogs only, obviously) and switches to adding a blur effect. HDR mode has also been improved, using the front camera's depth sensing to distinguish objects in the image, providing a fuller color spectrum.
iPhone 15 is equipped with an OLED Super Retina display, supports Dolby Vision content, and has a brightness of 1,600 nits. The display has a peak brightness of 2,000 nits in sunlight, twice that of the iPhone 14.
The device uses the new A16 Bionic chip and is equipped with a 6-core GPU. The chip also provides ultra-wideband communication support and improved FindMy functionality - similar to what we saw in the new Apple Watch Series 9. .
The just-released iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are available in five new colors: light pink, yellow, blue, green and black. It uses an aircraft-grade aluminum metal body and adds color based on the back glass. Apple uses an optimized custom dual ion exchange process for this new material and polishes it with nanocrystals. Then, it's also etched with a textured matte finish.
After several delays, Apple has finally added USB-C to the smartphone world, adding to the ubiquitous connector. The move is partly due to EU legislation requiring connector standardization. While Apple isn't excited about this, it's a good thing for consumers.
iPhone15 and iPhone15Plus will be available in three capacities: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. Pre-orders for the new iPhone 15 begin on Friday, September 15, with shipping starting on Friday, September 22.
